Description
Orthodontic treatments are to improve overall appearance of your teeth. The TRU-LINE Invisible Orthodontic System is the exciting new way to straighten your teeth without conventional braces. The TRU-LINE Invisible Orthodontic System uses a series of unique custom fabricated transparent plastic aligners to gently move your teeth to their ideal position.

Comprehensive orthodontic treatment can be metal wires inserted into orthodontic brackets, otherwise known as braces. Braces can be made of a stainless steel or a more aesthetic material. The wires that are inserted interact with the brackets to move the teeth into a desired position.

Other orthopedic tools to straighten the teeth may be appliances or plates, head gear, or expansion appliances such as spacers or retainers. Functional appliances may be used on growing patients, ages five to fourteen to modify the jaw line. This practice is usually followed by the attachment of full braces to help align the teeth.

After a course of orthodontic treatment, patients are usually required to wear retainers which maintain the teeth in their improved positions while the surrounding bone reforms around them. The retainers are generally worn full time for a short period; usually six months to a year. However, there is no guarantee the teeth will stay align as the person ages. Some orthodontists require part time retainer wear for many years after to help prevent this from happening.

Recently an alternative developed to dental braces and is known as transparent aligners or invisible orthodontics. The most popular orthopedic device is the InvisAlign.

The most obvious advantage to this treatment is for cosmetic purposes. The aligners are completely transparent, making it far less noticeable than the traditional dental wires and bracket braces. This method is most popular for adults who want to straighten their teeth without noticeable braces. As braces are commonly linked to children and young adults. It is also reported that the aligners are far more comfortable than dental braces. The aligners can be removed, which can help with the consumption of food without the annoyance of braces.

Aligners also avoid side effects are commonly brought on by dental braces. Damage to the gums and tooth decay occurs in up to fifty percent of patients using braces. It is also been reported that aligners are quicker than the traditional orthodontics. Braces have been reported to show improvement at ninety-six months, whereas aligners take an average of twelve to eighty months.

There are some disadvantages to the transparent aligners. They do not require a cephalometric radiograph X-ray to treat the final facial augmentation and proper teeth angulation. Another shortcoming of the transparent aligners is they requires the full cooperation of the patient to be successful. It is based on the patient's commitment to wearing the aligners for twenty to twenty-two hours per day, only to be removed for eating, drinking, or brushing.
